Thanks to Shi Yueliang for making the cover.
This story has been changed into a side story about one of the characters from Uncertain External Factors. It's not very long, just a side plot. Give it a look.
Three years ago, Chen Wei, captain of the Ability Bureau's field team, received a mission. The Bureau had developed a device to detect ability signatures. After numerous tests, it detected an ability signature in a village, with a fluctuation frequency higher than that of any other ability user.
They feared the ability user was powerful and wanted to recruit them, so they sent Chen Wei. But the villagers had no idea what an ability signature or an ability user was, and firmly refused to let them search for one. After several disputes, weapons were accidentally fired, killing one villager on the spot. That death led to a riot.
When the Ability Bureau learned what had happened, it tried to cover up the accident by killing all 150 or so people in the village. Fearing they might not dispose of the bodies thoroughly, they sent people back to set another fire. The sole survivor who learned the truth sought out Shen Yue, an ability user living in Qihai District.
After learning what had happened, Shen Yue agreed to help Jiang Wenxun get revenge. After Chen Wei died, his ability, Sui Yan, was released by Chen Wei. Sui Yan made three agreements with Chen Wei and agreed to his demands. Then he devoured Chen Wei's body, took human form, and took Chen Wei's place at the Ability Bureau. Since he was an ability, he was monitored every day.
Perhaps out of regret, Shen Yue decided to help Sui Yan escape that surveillance. He also promised to fulfill Chen Wei's dying wish: to grant Sui Yan true freedom, so he could live freely in this world as a person.
Putting aside those so-called rotten seeds, who would willingly become the villain everyone despises?
