After completing her mission, Chris Jiang returned home on a frontier planet. The sweet aroma of cream soup was there to greet her.

Her husband immediately untied his apron and came over, offering a reassuring kiss. Familiar warmth filled his clear brown eyes. "Are you hungry? Dinner's ready whenever you are."

This was when Jiang felt most at ease, and why she was willing to live here under an assumed name, even though her husband was just a minor employee at the Childcare Bureau.

-

On their second wedding anniversary, Jiang received two pieces of good news:

First, the enemy nation had launched a spy mission targeting the military, called Project Natalie. She would have work again.

Second, her husband had finally saved enough reproductive points to qualify for a spot in the preferred parenting program. She was going to be a mother.

-

When the baby was born, Jiang was in the middle of assassinating a spy.

"It's a girl," she heard her husband's weak voice say. "I hope she'll be as sweet as you."

"No, as sweet as you," she corrected him.

After hanging up, Jiang leaned forward again and continued searching through her scope for the swift-moving fat man. But the person who appeared was a man pushing a stroller: her husband.

The mission failed. The target escaped.

Her husband explained the circumstances behind the unexpected delivery.

Back home, Jiang noticed what looked like a healed bullet wound on her husband's body, in the same place as the wound on the escaped target.

Jiang's gaze darkened. Her tone carried a hint of regret. "Looks like she won't grow up to be a sweet girl after all."

[Author's note]:

Both leads have secret identities. It's a cat-and-mouse game in the style of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

The A in the title doesn't mean ABO. The sweet girl is fathered by a man. It's technology, not gender-bender.
