Am I a Big Bad Villain Who Destroys the World Through Science?

[The original advance notice was for a game set five years in the future, but I still play games from seventeen years ago and remakes of games from twenty years ago. In the face of the AI boom, I just can't imagine a scenario where the game industry breaks through.]

[At heart, I'm a creator who needs a strong connection to reality and the present environment, so I can only write stories set in the present. I'll revise the advance notice to take the direction of the blurb below.]

[This is probably the only field I'm familiar with.]

I'm heading back to my comfort zone to make a trio of world-destroying masterminds.

In one sentence:

"A research-obsessed world-ending villain finds his conscience in old age, travels back twenty years, and decides to stop himself."

[Short blurb]

Shan Ran meets a man who claims to come from twenty years in the future. He gives him one good piece of news and one bad piece of news.

The good news: "In twenty years, you'll become one of the world's leading scientists, and while working on a project, you'll accidentally develop a time machine."

The bad news: "Someone has used the time machine to return to the present, twenty years in the past, to kill you."

Shan Ran looks at the man: handsome and cold, with a deep gaze, ruthless and laconic.

He asks the question burning in his soul: "So are you going to kill me or help me?"

The man grips his collar and laughs menacingly. "What do you think?"

*

A narcissistic romance, with fated lovers who are bound by destiny, love and hate each other, and can't stand one another, like a pair of grade-schoolers.

Ah, as I keep saying, who could stand their past self? Going back in time without killing your former self is already ironclad true love.

The top is stronger than the protagonist, naturally. The top is the protagonist twenty years in the future. If he weren't stronger than his former self, wouldn't his life have been a waste?

Back then, he was lost, with no one to show him the way.

So he went back to that time to point himself in the right direction.

Theme: Has the world not been destroyed yet?
