Across the Way, the Blue Sky Has Arrived Too

[The new Diamond no Ace fanfic, Sports Romance Without a Straight-Up Confession, is now underway. Blurb at the bottom.] Oikawa Seika liked to think she was nothing special, aside from being pretty, getting decent grades, having been her team's ace, and having tens of thousands of Instagram followers... and being particularly good at putting up with things. "If it hurts this much, if you're this miserable, why can't you give up running?" Because she wanted to travel farther on her own two legs. If she could run to the edge of the world, what kind of scenery might she find along the way? At that moment, Seika passed by a baseball field. Across the green grass, a clear blue sky had opened up too. * One-on-one romance * The title is adapted from Kenji Miyazawa. The protagonists are both outdoor sports enthusiasts, hence the title, A Clear Sky Has Opened Up Too. * A crossover of sports anime (mainly Diamond no Ace, Haikyu!!, and Run with the Wind), with only ordinary humans and a few elements of shoujo manga. * Please don't mention other works in the comments, or mention this story in other comment sections. Sawa and Miyuki were both catchers from prestigious baseball schools. When they met, Sawa was taller than him, had better athletic ability, looked cooler than him in his school uniform, received more Valentine's chocolates, and had crowds of people ready to answer her call wherever she went. At fifteen, meeting someone was supposed to make your heart flutter. But for them, it was more like going straight to their heads. Over the past two years, Miyuki had beaten Sawa only in height and on the field: he was two centimeters taller, and he had secured the starting catcher's position before her. But it was all for nothing, because she had a rule: to date her, you had to beat her one-on-one at basketball. Plenty of star athletes had refused to believe it and showed up with a ball to challenge her, only for her to wipe out entire basketball teams across the Tokyo area. The strongest catcher of their generation: crushed. * Although Sawa was a famous Diamond Queen, once she left the field, she was just a silly grade-schooler who bounced around everywhere. She'd thought some people were simply incompatible, but little by little, she and Miyuki started putting their arms around each other's shoulders. Whether it was a three-legged race at sports day or going to Koshien together, their increasingly well-matched pace made Sawa realize that maybe she and Miyuki were siblings in all but blood. Until... "...I thought we were just buddies, but you want to date me?!" Theme: Something drifted down quietly from the sky, and I caught it without a doubt.
