[Tragic, unlucky, and wicked female supporting character & reserved, steady young nobleman in hardship] Wrapping up~
Wen Ao is the stepsister of the Grand Preceptor's daughter. She's strikingly beautiful, vain, and willful. She's in love with Xiao Mingzhang, heir to the Duke of Zhenguo, but he already has someone he loves: her stepsister, Li Chenglan.
Wen Ao was abducted, and when she woke up, she was in the bed of the Ninth Prince.
Memories flooded back. She was the supporting female character, and Li Chenglan was the heroine. The Ninth Prince lusted after Li Chenglan, and Xiao Mingzhang, the male supporting character, couldn't bear to see the woman he loved in danger, so he sent her stepsister in her place.
After this, Wen Ao would lose everything and meet a tragic end.
That night, Wen Ao fought desperately and wounded the Ninth Prince with a dagger. She was thrown into a mass grave.
To stay alive and get revenge, Wen Ao dragged out the villain who was also in the mass grave: Cui Jiuyin, Xiao Mingzhang's archenemy, a ruthless and heartless court favorite who would one day hold the world in the palm of his hand.
Ignoring his cold expression, Wen Ao cared for him every day and urged him onward, hoping he'd soon rise to The Outcast, above everyone but the emperor, so she could ride his coattails to success.
*
Cui Jiuyin came from a noble family and was a refined, immaculate young lord, but power struggles at court brought the Cui clan to ruin.
He was badly wounded when he arrived at the mass grave. When he opened his eyes, he saw Wen Ao gazing at him with greed in her eyes and ulterior motives in mind.
Because of that first meeting, he always thought she was calculating.
She was stingy and lazy, yet she spent the money she had saved on clothes for him. He thought she had an ulterior motive.
She said she expected to become a high-ranking minister in the future, and he scoffed at her.
She was vain and spoiled, greedy, afraid of pain, and unwilling to endure hardship. At first, he never imagined anything could happen between them.
But in the end, it took only half a year for him to go from looking down on her to having eyes for no one but her.
The young woman was sincere and adorable, and treated him so well. He never imagined she would leave him.
So when they were in love, he was overwhelmed with panic upon learning, as they whispered together, that she had once planned to leave. For the first time, the usually detached and calculating man pleaded with tears in his eyes:
"Aoao, don't go. I was the one who didn't know what was good for me. I was vain and spoiled..."
"Zhen Niang, don't leave me... and don't... ignore me again..."
#The male lead lives in the romance plot, while the female lead lives in the main plot#
The first two chapters are a little slow, but things pick up after that. A slow-burn story.
.For content warnings, see the author's note in Chapter One.
[Thanks to the helpful Bichui user ". " for coming up with the male lead's name~ The setting is fictional but has historical references, drawing on the Song dynasty.]
