[Journey to the West] Princess Iron Fan

A story about cows, written for the Year of the Ox. Adapted from the original Journey to the West, it mainly tells the coming-of-age story of Princess Su Shanshan of the Rakshasa Kingdom. The ancient Rakshasa Kingdom has endured years of war. In this generation, the king and queen have only one child, a daughter named Su Shanshan. Princess Shanshan has been clever and quick-witted since childhood, and can see things ordinary people cannot. But as a girl, she is destined to be unable to go to war and inherit the throne.

That year, an enemy kingdom declared war on the Rakshasa Kingdom, and its people suffered terribly. In the midst of a famine, as the king and queen watched their country near collapse, a powerful wandering Taoist from the Eastern Lands arrived. The Taoist claimed that Princess Shanshan had the potential to cultivate immortality, and urged the king and queen to let her accompany him on a journey to seek the immortal way. Perhaps this could offer the Rakshasa Kingdom a way to survive. The king and queen both knew that magic might not stop the slaughter of war or end the famine, but for their daughter's safety, they still decided to send Shanshan with the Taoist to cultivate immortality. Eight-year-old Shanshan resolved to return after completing her training, put an end to the war, and bring her people a peaceful, secure life. In this turbulent era, the little girl shouldered the mission of saving her whole country and set out on the road to seek the immortal way...

What was I born for? What is the meaning of life? The Taoist says that I can become an immortal only by finding a true immortal to learn from. Only then will I have the power to save my people. One day, golden rice will grow everywhere in my country, and everyone will have enough to eat and wear. My name is Little Fan. I'm not afraid of hardship. I will persevere.

[The story takes place during the five hundred years Sun Wukong was imprisoned beneath Five Elements Mountain.]
