The Bodhisattva

[Blurb] You look to Guanyin, and I look to you. You love the human world, and I love you. Xianyin cannot read or speak. All she can do is mumble, "Amitabha." She has always lived at a temple, helping the monks chop vegetables and serve meals. Lin Maoxian travels south to recuperate and stays at the temple for three months. Unaccustomed to the temple's two meals a day, he gets Xianyin to secretly cook porridge for him in the Guanyin Hall. The next time Lin Maoxian sees Xianyin, she has just been released from prison. She is crouching outside the iron fence of a stray cat shelter, watching the scruffy cats. He takes her home, learns sign language with her at the Disabled Persons' Federation, and cares for stray cats and dogs with her. Sometimes she lets the ailing Lin Maoxian lie beside her for a while, and strokes his stomach and belly. She has no particular romantic feelings. She loves all living things with spirits, without distinction. Lin Maoxian hopes Xianyin will like him for one day.
