A thousand years later, the first page of human history still bears this eternal inscription:
"Eternal praise to humanity's greatest Child of Chaos and the Void;
the ever-changing God of Creation;
the savior of order and peace, Wu Chao."
(In tiny print: and his mad dog)
*
Wu Chao was a graduate student in theology, an "ultra-obscure" field.
During an ordinary religious study, he unexpectedly encountered a mysterious religion.
On a pure white altar, a black sheep wept.
While recording the ritual, he slipped and crashed into the altar.
From then on, he began hearing the calls of mysterious, bizarre beings.
They said they had decided to awaken inside his body.
*
The stars shifted, and the world's order collapsed.
Faced with extreme weather, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, acid rain, viruses... human civilization stood on the brink of annihilation.
People began praying to the gods for salvation.
The people: "Praise the God of Nature! Help your believers fight this calamity!"
Wu Chao: "I'm here!"
The people: "Great Mother of Healing! Cure your believers of their diseases!"
Wu Chao: "Got it!"
The people: "Supreme Lord of the Outer Realm! Please control the stellar upheaval!"
Wu Chao: "What a coincidence, it's me again!"
The people: "King of Harvest and Sleep! Grant your believers food and sweet dreams!"
Wu Chao: "Coming..."
The people: "You again?!"
Wu Chao: "No..."
The people breathed a sigh of relief.
Wu Chao: "Not this time! The wrong one came out. Let me push this one back in, and you keep praying. I'll try again."
The people: "?!!!"
*
From that day on, before all of humanity, Wu Chao began using the divine personas within him to save their crumbling world.
He could forcibly put the divine personas to sleep, but he couldn't fully control their awakening. The believers' prayers had a powerful effect on which persona took over, causing [Divine Personas] with different abilities and beliefs to struggle against one another inside him.
This often left him bewildered and on the verge of madness.
As a result, theology flourished once more in human civilization!
And now, for theology scholars and all of humanity, there was only one true god to study.
The people: "We beseech you, Wu Chao, protect your believers!"
Wu Chao: "Let's see which one woke up this time!"
*
Human civilization returned to order and prosperity only thanks to Wu Chao's seemingly insane and absurd actions.
All of humanity began to believe in him, adore him, and long for him, unable to help themselves.
Yet they couldn't help being wary of the sinister, greedy, cunning mad dog at his side...
Wu Chao would never forget the scene of that ancient tyrant crawling out of his body.
Covered in prehistoric slime and remnants, it kissed the tips of his toes and said devoutly:
"I truly couldn't restrain my desire for you, so I descended into this world without permission."
"Will you tame me?"

"Of course, all the waters of the world will meet again, the Arctic Ocean and the Nile will mingle in the moist clouds. This ancient, beautiful metaphor makes the present moment sacred. Even as we wander, every road will lead us home."
Hermann Hesse, Klingsor's Last Summer
