Memory is like fragments, like a jigsaw puzzle. Every time we look back, we reshape and reinvent it. By the time a memory unfolds, it has already been repaired and filled in with details, like a novel's plot. Only in the minds of amnesia patients do memories remain as simple and pure as an infant's, never consciously embellished.
