The Trapped Beast

When Qin Chu walked into the theater, she saw that the strange, handsome man was sitting in the middle of the last row again.

She told jokes and delivered punchlines. The other audience members laughed until they doubled over, but he alone leaned back in his seat without moving, his light brown eyes fixed on Qin Chu.

He hadn't come to watch the show.

He'd come to watch her.

There was a rumor in Beijing's high society that Lin San had an unusual little preference.

Plenty of women liked him, but the ones who got close to him all had dimples.

At a dinner party organized by friends, Qiao Zheng held his phone out in front of Lin San.

On the screen, a young woman was doing stand-up comedy. She was sharp-tongued, with a wickedly quick wit. Everyone around her was laughing so hard they could barely breathe, while she remained perfectly composed. Only at the end, as she casually curved her lips in a smile, did a pair of dimples appear.

Qiao Zheng looked at Lin San, his eyes full of warning. "This is my new girlfriend."

Lin San glanced at the phone, then handed it back with a faint smile. "She's good at telling stories."

Lin San didn't know how long a person could live with a secret.

All he knew was that he'd been struggling in the mire for fifteen years, and he couldn't bear another minute.

A drowning person has to grab hold of a straw. Now that he'd finally seen Qin Chu again, he could never let go.

Whether they fled together from the endless sea of misery, or fell together into a bottomless abyss.
