Marrying the Attendant

Synopsis:

Xiao Qixun, twenty-four years old, born to a poor family, and this year's top scholar. To balance the factions at court, His Majesty appoints him directly as Vice Minister of Justice.

Newly risen to prominence, he receives an invitation from the Duke of Dingguo's residence. At the birthday banquet, he falls in love at first sight with Shen Ruoruo, a Junzhu of the Prince of Dai's residence.

But his status is lowly, so he naturally doesn't dare ask for her hand.

Unexpectedly, the Junzhu comes to him first and says she will marry him, but only if he agrees to a condition she will make later.

He agrees.

On their wedding night, just as he has taken off his clothes, she tells him the condition: he must never touch her again. That is the condition for her marrying him.

Xiao Qixun's face falls. He nearly breaks his promise, but in the end he takes his clothes and moves to the study.

Later...

In the bedroom, Shen Ruoruo has just bathed and is wearing a gauzy robe that leaves little to the imagination. Looking at the man before her, she says, "I've been this forward. Why still won't you touch me?"

Xiao Qixun lowers his head. "You said I wasn't allowed to touch you."

Shen Ruoruo: "I've changed my mind."
