First Things First: Solving the Food Problem, Part 2 [Interstellar]

My new novel, Judgment [Criminal Investigation], is looking for readers. Click on my author page to find it.

Updates at 9 a.m.!

In the year 2200, Jian Wei, a food blogger, transmigrates to District Three, a penal colony on the distant planet Aral.

District Three is piled high with metal scrap, and its stretches of primeval forest are mysterious and forbidding. With no food available, most people exiled to District Three starve to death.

Jian Wei is at her wit's end. Resigned to her fate, she lies beside a wrecked warship, waiting to die, when a chicken that has run out of the forest walks right past her...

Jian Wei: Huh, so there are chickens here!

Male lead: Chicken!

Jian Wei: I'm going to roast it!

Male lead: Roast chicken!

Male lead: Actually, I'm just an unpaid taste tester and an echo machine :)

Little scene one:

Jian Wei: Want a sweet potato?

Male lead: Yes.

Jian Wei: Is it good?

Male lead: It's good.

Later...

The male lead, who gets fed every day, eats meat fresh off the grill and sighs, "Roast meat really is tastier!"

Little scene two:

Jian Wei starts food livestreaming on Aral, using holographic projection so everyone on the planet can watch.

One day, while she's livestreaming how to make potstickers, a three-year-old girl in a pink princess dress runs in.

Child: Mommy, Daddy says he's hungry.

Jian Wei: Good girl. Let Daddy stay hungry.

Everyone watching the livestream: !!!

The male lead, standing in the doorway: ? Don't I get any respect?

Content warnings:

No wild game! (The story does need to include a type of wild game.)

Aral is ruled by a queen. Food is available, but there isn't the variety you'd find on Earth.

At the beginning, District Three's forest has everything, but the characters won't stay in District Three for long.

The female lead is very clever and may have a golden finger.

The male lead was ambushed by someone he trusted. He has to stay alive to get revenge, and he's fierce and savage early on.

Power couple, feel-good, sweet romance (?)

Theme: Good food deserves to be cherished, and life is worth striving through.
