After She Died

Yu Wan once believed she was Huo Zhang's one true love. She stood by him as he went from puppet ruler to emperor with real power, gladly enduring all the hardships along the way.

But once the emperor held all power in his hands, someone else stood at Huo Zhang's side as his wife. It turned out that Yu Wan had only been a stand-in, a shield to take the blame for another.

While the world celebrated the emperor and empress's true love, Yu Wan left the capital full of resentment. For years after leaving, she was tormented by her bitterness. Only when she lay gravely ill on her deathbed did she finally come to her senses, regretting that she had wasted her whole life for Huo Zhang.

Perhaps Heaven took pity on her. After Yu Wan died, her soul did not vanish. Instead, she transmigrated into the body of Princess Changning, whose appearance resembled hers in some ways.

Yu Wan had become Huo Zhang's imperial younger sister. When her ashes were brought back to the palace, she saw the emperor on his throne, his expression indifferent as he ground the ring on his thumb to pieces.

Yu Wan let go of her past life and wanted only to make the most of this one as Princess Changning. But the emperor, who seemed to care nothing for Yu Wan's death in the eyes of the world, appeared to be quietly going mad amid the unchanging days.

On the day Princess Changning was to be married, the auspicious hour passed, but the palace doors remained firmly shut. Inside, the emperor's eyes were bloodshot. He gripped his imperial sister's wrist with domineering force, his expression frantic. In a hoarse voice, he begged, "Is it you?"
