Her Subject

After a serious car accident, Lu Shaoan seemed to have forgotten something.

Everyone said it was nothing important, but he could tell he had changed. Nothing in the world stirred the slightest ripple in him. He dominated the business world and looked down on everyone from his lofty perch, yet he seemed like a walking corpse.

Three years later, he ran into Su Ling, his younger brother's former girlfriend, on the street. She wasn't married, but she had a child about three years old.

He asked her, "Is the child my brother's?"

Beneath the pale, wintry sunlight, she looked at him with cool, clear eyes, a scornful smile playing on her lips.

"Yes, Mr. Lu."

Lu Shaoan thought his downfall over Su Ling began with that glance on the street. Only when his memories returned did he learn that he'd already been utterly defeated years ago.

He thought she was his to command, but it turned out he had long been wrapped around her little finger.

(The male lead is the child's father, but he thinks the heroine had his brother's illegitimate child. Old-school melodrama: he forcefully takes her in the early part, then, after losing his memory, the domineering CEO pursues his wife in a fiery redemption arc.)

Theme: Even in adversity, keep your heart turned toward the light.
