Impersonating a Deity

In New Calendar Year 13, the Ark Tower is blasted to rubble by a sudden cannon shot. The monsters in the research institute beneath it escape in droves, including a monster rumored to have a danger rating of SSS.

They say the monster is hideous, has bizarre abilities, and refuses to obey orders.

That same year, the neighboring City S welcomes its new false god.

The false god looks quiet, fragile, delicate, and petite, just like a young master raised in luxury. Even his voice is soft and gentle, making people wonder whether he can shoulder the task of killing monsters as a false god.

Everyone laughs. "This little runt? Commander, are you sure you didn't bring the wrong person?"

In New Calendar Year 21, a young man stands atop the ruins, planting a flag in the red earth.

Behind him lie the bodies of countless monsters.

The flag snaps in the wind. Written across it in bold, free strokes are a few large characters:

"The flame of hope will never go out."

Chi Qilin has one secret he absolutely must never reveal:

He's a monster, not a false god.

Later, he discovers that this secret is false.
