[Harry Potter] The Long Night's Faint Dawn (Regulus/Severus)

You ask why I am not a Gryffindor? Because other Slytherins would never do this.

But I have never lacked the courage to walk toward you.

The first time Severus saw Regulus, the boy smiled at him.

That convinced him Regulus was just as detestable as his damned brother, and he decided to keep his distance.

Why was he a Slytherin?

Regulus, the new member of the Slytherin Quidditch Team, met the fearless gaze of Potter, a Gryffindor two years his senior and currently the best Seeker at Hogwarts. "Potter, perhaps Gryffindor won all the matches before, but things are different now that I have joined. I won't let you touch the Golden Snitch today, at least. I promised someone that Slytherin would win."

The someone he spoke of sat unwillingly in the stands, somewhere he would never normally go, his mind full of potions, spells, and Regulus.

Damn Slytherins with Gryffindor courage. Regulus Black.

He lit up the long nights, and from then on, no star in the galaxy he saw could compare to that one.

Severus, you always think I ought to be a Gryffindor because I show the kind of courage people conventionally associate with it when I'm with you.

But I don't think Slytherins are destined to be without courage. These are our best days, here in Slytherin.

Pairing: RAB/SS. Regulus x Severus.
