You're the Only One I Want to See in This World

The day You Yan returned to China, she ran into Jian Yuli at the airport.

His looks were striking, his features refined, his bearing noble. When he glanced at her, his gaze was devoid of warmth.

You Yan gripped her guitar case and walked past him.

Outside the airport, a sea of people had gathered to welcome Jian Yuli.

-

Half a month later, an old friend invited You Yan to play accompaniment at a bar.

The lead singer was delicate and slender, seated beneath the lights. His captivating eyes lifted, and his thin lips curved in amusement. "You Yan?"

You Yan wanted to run, but Jian Yuli came over and offered his hand in greeting. "Shall we get acquainted?"

That night, as she watched him at the microphone onstage, drawing wave after wave of screams, the shell she'd built around her heart cracked apart, piece by piece.

When they were young, You Yan loved kissing Jian Yuli's collarbones.

The boy wore a clean white shirt from No. 7 High School and sat on the rooftop's edge, his slender fingers plucking the guitar strings as he sang softly with a faint smile.

His gentle eyes were always filled with scattered rays of light.

Later, they broke up. You Yan went to the United States for further studies, while Jian Yuli stayed in China to build his career.

On the day she left, he gave her two open-ended plane tickets and let her choose.

She didn't choose him.

Jian Yuli said, "I will never see you again for the rest of my life."

But after the show that night, You Yan hid in the restroom to take painkillers and overheard Jian Yuli making plans with an old friend: "Invite her again tomorrow. I don't care how much it costs."

You Yan curled up in the innermost stall, clutching her head and sobbing uncontrollably.

The greatest blessing is to reach the edge of a dark cliff after crossing it all, and see that light from our youth once more.
