[Cthulhu] Immortality

When my father was working, I would often wait for him in his office for hours. To pass the time, I tried reading the documents pinned to the wall. I was probably five or six at the time, and the dense classical Chinese was still too difficult for me to understand. But I clearly remember the images. From totems to murals, every one of those artworks depicted enormous, snake-like creatures.

I remember a reconstruction drawing of a huge bronze statue posted on the wall. The weathered statue depicted a humanoid being with a face that made it impossible to tell whether it was male or female, a human upper body, and a winding serpent's tail. It wore a golden crown, its eyelids lowered, and was adorned with all kinds of intricate jewelry. Its head was bowed, and it held a bowl in its left hand.

The statue had an inexplicable allure. As a child, I could hardly look away. I couldn't understand why people in ancient times had spent so much manpower and resources building such a strange yet beautiful statue. And I had even less idea that the god depicted by that bronze statue would appear in my life.
