Burning Bones [Crime Investigation]

A string of unsolved cases rocks the city, with the victims' bones removed. Lu Zhengyi is a tough, prickly man who takes over the job at a moment of crisis. On his first day, he brings his bedding into the morgue and spends the whole night staring eye to eye with the bodies beneath their white sheets. Gu Ye, the so-called "pretty face," starts the same day. He's a psychology student from a prestigious university, but refuses to do counseling and insists on joining the field team. Lu Zhengyi glances at the pretty face and points at a body under a sheet. "What's the use of good grades? Come take a look at this." While everyone watches with tragic resignation, Gu Ye bravely steps forward, looks directly at the corpse, and promptly throws up all over the new captain. "If you faint at the sight of blood, why insist on working in the field?" "To repay a debt." But Gu Ye seems to be under some kind of spell. Whenever he goes out on a case, there's never any blood at the scene; every case he handles is solved without a single oversight. He seems to have an abnormal grasp of the secretive organization known as Boneburning, so sharp it's almost frightening. Lu Zhengyi lights a cigarette and smiles. "If I didn't trust you, I'd suspect you were the one killing these people." The first time there is blood at a scene with Gu Ye present, the injured person is Gu Ye himself. His internal organs are badly damaged, and his blood loss is nearing the fatal threshold. Hidden by the flashing lights of the ambulance, he stares at Lu Zhengyi with reddened eyes, clutching his sleeve tightly. "Trust me. One last time."
