"My harp plays a mournful song. When she lived, I loved her passionately; now she is dead, and I cannot help but love her still."
Edward I, commemorating Eleanor of Castile.
Princess Eleanor, who grew up in the Kingdom of Castile, married Edward, heir to the British throne, in the spring of her thirteenth year. At a young age, she chose to shoulder every responsibility alongside her husband.
Their love for each other was sincere and passionate.
They were faithful to each other, always.
Yet her life was far from smooth.
