- My mother said that when you like someone, you can pick his face out of thousands at a glance.

- I couldn't.

Jicheng, a northwestern frontier stronghold of the Great Jin dynasty, saw frequent warfare, with many households reduced to a single person and many people displaced.

Like Jicheng's two hundred thousand residents, Cao Yan'er never managed to leave the city in her lifetime. Sandstorms, war, famine, and plague wore her down, and Jicheng changed hands several times, but she never left, not even once, until the day she died.

Her first husband died beneath the city gates. Her second became Jicheng's governor.

Putting this up as a preview for now. I'll start writing it once my skills are good enough.

Historical romance, happy ending, angst along the way, the kind where it hurts like hell.

Theme: The struggle of ordinary people on the ancient frontier
