Jing Xin transmigrates into the role of a poor cannon-fodder male supporting character.
In the original story, the protagonist is adored by everyone, while Jing Xin can't even afford to put food on the table. The protagonist is fabulously wealthy, while Jing Xin is so poor that... all he has left is a villa.
The villa is the last inheritance his family left him.
And because this ancient, historic villa is said to be haunted by ghosts and spirits, the production team chooses it as the filming location for a new variety show.
Thanks to his villa, Jing Xin becomes a guest on the show and sets out on the path of making the protagonist shine.
Jing Xin: ...??
Jing Xin quietly puts down the script. He's done suffering the hardships of being poor and cannon fodder. What's not to love about owning a mansion?
So Jing Xin lets loose.
While the other guests scheme against each other, openly and subtly throw shade, and desperately play to the cameras, Jing Xin... simply gets on with his life.
He boils water and cooks, plays the erhu in his villa, starts spring-cleaning from the top floor, brings injured baby animals from the surrounding forest back to the villa, and finally starts farming outside!
Who knew all of it would be recorded by the cameras? The online audience goes from skeptical, to intrigued, to completely fired up:
[Is this seriously a breath of fresh air?]
[No way, he's as skilled at caring for animals as a zookeeper, can sing folk songs, and grows the greenest, best cabbages around!]
[I can't believe a guy who owns such a treasure of a villa is so low-key. I'm absolutely voting for him to debut in the center position this time!]
Meanwhile, strange changes quietly begin to take place in the villa...

Jing Xin gradually notices that
His bedroom often inexplicably fills with piles of jeweled crowns;
A figure that might be a baby dragon seems to race around the villa;
When his blanket slips off at night, someone tucks it back over him;
The cabbages he planted grow to half a person's height;
And whenever he gets drunk and groggy, strong arms lift him up, while a cool, alluring fragrance drifts past his nose.
Jing Xin looks up at the cameraman.
Cameraman: ...It wasn't me. I didn't do anything. [You're really putting me in a tough spot.JPG]

Later, Jing Xin discovers that his villa seems to connect to a mysterious realm.
That realm has already entered the interstellar age. The powerful dragon and merfolk races, along with the Federation and Empire, have coexisted and competed throughout the universe for thousands of years.
Legend has it that life was once peaceful, until one day their human young master suddenly disappeared, and the land was engulfed in smoke and war.
The various races of the empire fell into chaos, frenzy, and unease. Their leaders, eyes bloodshot, frantically searched for the human, and wars erupted everywhere.
Until, on a battlefield of blood and sand, a mirror reflected the image of a bright, pristine villa.

Before transmigrating into the book, he seems to have worked part-time as a temporary zookeeper for a while...
