Everyone knew that all it would have taken for Ji Xiangrui and Shi Jian to avoid missing their chance back then was for one of them to speak up.

She thought she was doing what was best for him, but ended up losing him for good.

Years later, when they met again after a long separation, Shi Jian placed that chance in her hands.

At a border crossing, Shi Jian was in danger, but still chose to lead his team to the edge of the security line.

He stared at Ji Xiangrui, threatened and held in someone else's hands on the other side. His voice nearly trembled, but he forced it to sound cold and steady. "Let her come over."

The man merely crooked a finger at him in provocation, signaling for him to come over.

The man was betting that Shi Jian had no right to cross that line now.

But no one expected what happened next.

After taking a deep breath, Shi Jian crossed the line without hesitation.

He looked calmly at Ji Xiangrui, who was frantically shaking her head at him, his eyes full of reassurance.

Though she had been rescued, Ji Xiangrui burst into tears. "Are you crazy? Do you know what that boundary is?"

Shi Jian wiped the tears streaming down her face. "I promised you."
