After We Had an Octopus Baby

The apocalypse arrived without warning, and the price of water went up every day, making it as valuable as oil and gold.

To ease the burden on his parents, Lin Wan left his village and went to the city, where he became a water deliveryman.

It was a pretty good job. He could buy water at the employee price, twenty percent cheaper than elsewhere.

After a tiring year, Lin Wan finally decided to treat himself. He went to the supermarket and bought a pricey bag of baby octopuses, one of his favorite foods.

He rinsed them and blanched them. Bubbles rose as the water boiled. Just as Lin Wan was about to stir them with his chopsticks, the sight before him gave him a fright. A pair of huge, egg-shaped blue eyes stared at him. Seven or eight tentacles clung to a dead baby octopus, and the creature gazed at him curiously.

Lin Wan’s heart pounded. He was doomed. He’d bought frozen octopuses, so why was there a live one paddling its tentacles around in the pot? And why was it blue? Could it be poisonous?

The baby octopus saw its startled dad and squirted water at him, then made a "gurgle... gurgle" sound.

It meant, "Dad, Dad, I’m hungry. I’m hungry..."

An Yang thought he had transmigrated. He was clearly a human, but his baby insisted he was an insect with antennae.

But no matter how An Yang searched, he couldn’t find any antennae on his head. He was just a human.

He’d transmigrated straight into hell-mode survival: stranded on a desolate planet without water or food, he had to keep himself alive and take care of the little boy who was following him and supposedly his baby. Heaven was merciless to him, determined to kill him, kill him.

There was no way out for either him or the baby. An Yang wanted to roast the egg he’d brought with him and eat it. At least it would be food.

But the baby clutched it and resisted with all his might, saying that if An Yang wanted to eat the egg, he’d have to eat him first. He also said it was his little brother and couldn’t be eaten, and that he had to soothe it by stroking it with his antennae so it could hatch...

An Yang figured the baby must have been born without his medication. He was treating an egg like his little brother. Was he that desperate for a sibling?
