The Little Lucky Star of the 1970s

[Reading Guide]

The male and female leads are both looks-obsessed.

A bewitching little menace and a sly, big-tailed wolf.

Yang Yunkai, from the Fan Shen River Production Brigade, is well into adulthood but still a hopelessly clueless bachelor.

He's a boy, but so delicate and lovely that all the village women are too intimidated to make a move on him.

One day, this block of wood finally catches on. Watching the single country girl next door grow prettier by the day, he can't resist bringing over a ladder.

On a moonless, windy night, Yang climbs the neighbor's wall with his ladder, only to come face-to-face with a bashful, rosy-cheeked beauty.

Hearing the ladder being moved next door, Yan Jingjing can barely contain her delight. All that wandering around wasn't for nothing. He's finally unable to hold back, is he?

Yan Jingjing is a little sprite who makes a habit of doing good deeds. After being struck by lightning, she discovers that she has transmigrated.

What's more, she's become the pitiful country girl from a period novel she once read, the one who was bullied by the village thug while gathering wild vegetables on the mountain and died as a result.

Having died and come back to life outside the cycle of reincarnation, Yan Jingjing is on the verge of being matched with someone by the well-meaning women's director. Panicking, she turns her attention to the village's handsome block of wood.

Yang Yunkai is the ex-husband in the book who gets framed by the female educated youth lead, sent off to the grasslands, and eventually pushed off a cliff by the domineering male lead. He's clearly doomed to be cannon fodder, too.

But... Yan Jingjing looks at his irresistible face, her heart fluttering and pounding, and decides she should see her good deeds through to the end.
