Borrowing Sweetness to Quell Restlessness

1. Yun Xiu has always been stubborn, ever since she was little.

When she first learned to write numbers, she wrote 6 in mirror image, so it looked like a musical note.

Her teacher made her write it a hundred times, and every one looked like a little musical note.

All the children laughed at her. Only A Si didn't.

He said, "There are two ways to write a 6. They don't know that, idiots."

So Yun Xiu decided A Si was a good person, just as she believed a 6 ought to look like a little musical note.

Everyone said A Si was a bad kid, except her.

She said, "A Si has two sides. They don't know that, idiots."

Later, crimson blurred her vision. A Si raised his gun, and she lifted her hand to cover the muzzle:

"My boy can be a troublemaker, but he can't fall into the abyss and lose his future."

After that, A Si went somewhere else.

Shortly after starting college, a senior confessed to Yun Xiu. She shook her head.

"I have a boyfriend."

Nobody believed her.

Her gaze was firm. "It's true. He went to prison for fighting, and I'm waiting for him."

"He fought because that guy was trying to pursue me."

The senior was so frightened that he dropped his roses and ran.

Her roommates burst out laughing. "Xiu Xiu, that's a great excuse."

But they never expected Yun Xiu to use it for four years, until they all believed her.

Until one day, they saw Yun Xiu, eyes red, rush into the arms of a man covered in the smell of gunpowder and cling to him desperately.

"A Si, I missed you so much."

Rong Xingzhi sighed and lowered his head to kiss the eyes of the girl in his arms.

His Yaoyao

had always been stubborn,

ever since she was little.

2. Rong Xingzhi has always thought he was an oddity, ever since he was little.

No child would like an oddity, except Yaoyao.

Yaoyao was another oddity. She couldn't learn to write, and she was always talking to little animals.

This little oddity taught him from childhood that violence couldn't solve problems, so he tried hard to be a good kid who didn't fight.

But later, Yaoyao moved into a big house, while he sank deeper and deeper into the mire.

The light he couldn't reach drifted farther away, and only violence could bring them closer.

Until

Yaoyao snatched the gun from his hand and cried to the righteous people who had come to take him away:

"Don't take him, or I'll shoo..."

At that moment, Rong Xingzhi, who had never thought he was in the wrong, regretted it.

The first time he pulled the trigger,

he pointed it at his own head.

As everyone cried out in alarm, he smiled.

"Officer, it's a toy."

Only he knew it was real.

Afterward, he worked without sleep or rest, donned his military uniform, and went to find his Yaoyao again.

But the past still made him an oddity, and people urged Yaoyao to stay away from him.

He heard Yaoyao say:

"You can't deny someone's worth in the present because of their past. My A Si is the best."

Rong Xingzhi's eyes reddened. He spent all his savings to have a ring made.

Tiny diamonds formed a musical note. Its mirror-image shape of a 6 was their wordless love letter.

-Nobody doesn't want to be a good person.

-Good people don't necessarily turn bad, but every bad kid has the chance to become better.

[Yun's mind was as free as clouds drifting from a mountain peak; tired birds flew home.

Birds in the mountains and forests fly wherever they please, going where they should and stopping where they must.]
