[The entire novel is getting a major revision...]
It's still a modern story about a stuffy scholar and a cheerful little flower spirit. I'm trying to pick up the pace in this new version.
My other novel, Reborn as Fu Mei in the 1990s, will have a steadier update schedule!
Blurb:
Fu Mei of Taoyuan Village had been called a lucky girl by the elders ever since she was little. She was born into a good family: her father was the village Party secretary, one of her two older brothers served in the army, and the other went to university. Nobody ever had a bad word to say about the Tao family.
Fu Mei lived up to her name, too. She was plump and adorable from childhood, and even in the hardest times, her family never let her go without food or clothes. As she grew up, she proved to be bright and made it into high school. Then she married a soldier, and everyone agreed they made a perfect couple.
Sadly, just as she was blossoming into a young woman, Fu Mei died too soon, perishing on the mountain while gathering herbs for her child.
Perhaps because her last thoughts were of her precious child, Fu Mei never really left after she died. She stayed in the heavens, watching over her baby.
It was through this twist of fate that Fu Mei learned her death had not been an accident. A friend she had trusted for years had been harboring ulterior motives.
Thankfully, her husband and child did not let her down. They never blindly trusted that wicked woman and fell for her tricks.
Still, if Fu Mei ever got the chance, she would tear that woman apart with her own hands. The woman had been full of malice, and had killed her without a shred of remorse!
Much later, perhaps Heaven heard her prayers. Fu Mei came back, returning to the time before it all began...
*Watch Fu Mei link arms with her husband, hold her child, and tear into the white lotus!
P.S. Yes, Fu Mei is a powerhouse. She takes people down with her words :)

1.
In the eyes of outsiders, Lu Xingnan is pretty aloof.
Everyone at No. 13 High School considers him a top student, even a prodigy, but nobody dares get too close. He's the sort of person you can admire from afar, but never touch.
But only Ruan Tang knows just how full of himself Lu Xingnan is in private!
On the night the college entrance exams ended, Lu Xingnan sent Ruan Tang an ambiguous message, testing the waters before confessing his feelings.
Ruan Tang, meanwhile, applied the same focus she used to analyze essay prompts to carefully work out whether Lu Xingnan's words had some hidden meaning, or if he was just teasing her.
Of course, Lu Xingnan couldn't wait for her to figure it out, so he timed another call to Ruan Tang.
Once she picked up, he completely sidestepped what had just happened and acted as if nothing was amiss. Now he just wanted to ask Ruan Tang to see a movie the next day.
Ruan Tang: "..." This guy was such a waste of emotional energy!
2. [Library Rule No. 5: No food allowed inside]
"Hey, you're not allowed to eat in here. How can you..."
In a quiet corner of the library, a soft, sweet complaint trailed off halfway through.
Then a clear, bright male voice rang out. There seemed to be a smile in it, and his rising intonation showed how good a mood he was in.
"You ate half, so you're an accomplice too. Still going to report me, hmm?"
"..."
"Is it sweet?"
"..."
"Want something even sweeter?"
