Cheng Ronghua came from a distinguished family and was born a noble lady. At fourteen, she became famous throughout the capital after performing a breathtaking dance during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The emperor was delighted and betrothed Cheng Ronghua to the young general Wei Yuan. The imperial decree caused an uproar throughout the capital.
Everyone in the capital knew that the young general Wei Yuan was handsome and had made a name for himself at an early age. Matchmakers had nearly worn down the threshold of the general's residence, and countless noble ladies seethed with jealousy toward Cheng Ronghua.
Cheng Ronghua thought her wish had come true and happily awaited her wedding.
But on her wedding night two years later, Cheng Ronghua learned that everything before then had been an illusion.
The young general Wei Yuan, praised by everyone in the capital, had harbored treasonous ambitions. He had married her only to seize control of the Cheng family.
Cheng Ronghua was consumed by hatred.
She drank a cup of poisoned wine, and flames filled the sky.
As she lay dying, Cheng Ronghua saw Wei Zheng, dressed in a red robe, fight his way through the enemy alone and rush toward her.
He held her in his arms, trembling as he called her "Niannian" over and over.
Only then did Cheng Ronghua realize she had mistaken one man for another!
Reborn, she found herself once again at the Mid-Autumn Festival, after the emperor had already announced his verbal decree of betrothal.
Cheng Ronghua knelt, her voice ringing out with conviction. "I, your subject's daughter, refuse to marry. I beg Your Majesty to revoke your decree."
The entire hall fell silent.
How bold of Cheng Ronghua! She dared openly defy an imperial decree.
At the same time, Wei Zheng, the second son of the general's household, petitioned to marry her: "I ask to marry the An Ding Marquis Household's Lady Ronghua. Please grant your approval, Your Majesty."
Cheng Ronghua: ???
