In the Lingxu Mirror, Jing Zhuqing saw the future awaiting her and Jing Xiaoyan.
As dull-witted as she was, she died on a snowy afternoon for reasons unknown, never breaking through beyond the lower Golden Core realm.
Jing Xiaoyan, meanwhile, broke through to the Fusion stage, betrayed his sect, and turned to demonic cultivation. In the end, his junior brother joined forces with many orthodox sects to kill him at the Immortal-Prison Ridge. That was five years after her death.
It seemed that her death, and the loss of his closest friend, had made Jing Xiaoyan increasingly gloomy and twisted in temperament, until he suffered a cultivation deviation, brought disaster upon the world, and became an enemy of heaven and earth.
Jing Zhuqing immediately grew worried. When children go astray, it's usually because they haven't been taught properly.
She couldn't stand by and watch her childhood friend take on the role of a villain and wreak havoc. She had to do her part!
She would investigate the cause of her own death and do everything she could to keep it from happening. Even if she couldn't, she had to prepare some lessons for Jing Xiaoyan before she died: lessons on saying goodbye, on death, and on love!
She had to help him find other close friends, and even a lifelong partner, so he could keep living happily and positively after she was gone. That way, Jing family could rest in peace in the afterlife!
She began deliberately keeping her distance from Jing Xiaoyan, introducing him to friends from their sect, secretly arranging for him to meet excellent female cultivators, and taking him to witness the joys and sorrows of the human world. She even staged her own fake death, all to help him get used to loss.
At first, Jing Xiaoyan was completely uncooperative. He resisted fiercely and even lost his temper with her.
But later, he gradually started smiling as he made friends with others, brought flowers to the young women she arranged for him, and spoke openly with her about life and death. On the very day after her fake death, he even broke through without a care, reaching the Fusion stage earlier than the Lingxu Mirror had foretold...
So Jing Zhuqing, locked away in a little dark room, never dreamed that she would actually, utterly, fail!
All her painstaking lessons had not only failed to have a positive effect, but had also made her childhood friend's personality even more extreme?
With her limbs bound by chains forged from spirit stones and immortal jade, Jing Zhuqing watched Jing Xiaoyan standing in the shadows, speaking softly in a broken voice:
"Zhuqing, my world is very small, so small that it only has you in it. But if you're gone, my world will be destroyed. What does the rest of heaven and earth matter?"
"...You should've said so sooner!"
