The Book of the Long Night

From the barren Genesis Era to the prosperous Morningstar Era, from the first rising of Sirius in the southern sky to the everlasting setting of the radiant Morningstar in the northern lands, our war with them has never ended.

Now the boundless night has fallen once more. In the distant dawn, the shadow of the apocalypse is eyeing a world that has only just awakened.

But don't be afraid, child. All you need to do is sleep peacefully. When you wake, the sun will rise once more.

Good night. I wish you sweet dreams.

Please note:

I'm slowly revising the story.

The story sprawls in too many directions, and the plot is both too sprawling and too tangled. It also involves both my own additions and reinterpretations, so I've decided to move some of the more standalone plots into a prequel or sequel.

This story blends multiple mythologies.

There are so many original additions that I'm no longer using the previous prefix. You can read this as an original work, though the characters' names and relationships in the main story are mostly unchanged. Feel free to keep reading if you're interested. ( )

I wrote this to bring closure to a long-running fantasy that comforted me through the tense, oppressive years of high school. Originally, it was meant to make up for a regret I had back then. But now that the series next door has ended, much of that regret has faded. I feel this story shouldn't remain shackled to that old regret, so I've decided to pick it back up, sort out the plot, and do my best to give it an ending.

Of course, due to real-life circumstances, updates are pretty sporadic for now. I may release it a volume at a time, so just read whenever you like.
