Fanfiction: The Great Monkey King of Journey to the West

Asleep, asleep... How long have I been sleeping?

Who is calling for me?

Where is the road? I once explored it with all my strength. Forward, always forward, yet all I could see was emptiness and darkness.

I failed, but I have no regrets.

I am the Great Sage, Equal to Heaven. I cannot die.

Answering the calls and whispers, the earth began to tremble violently. Just as it had at its birth thousands of years ago, it burst free of its shackles and restraints. Its figure towered between heaven and earth.

The Great Sage has returned.

The road to the scriptures lies right beneath our feet.

And so the story of that monkey came to an abrupt end.

Did it die?

Was it captured?

What was its final fate?

Everything became a question mark, passed down only by historians or in bedtime stories for children.
