Sentinel and Guide novel, happy ending When Wei Xi was twenty, he thought his life was already perfect. He had unexpectedly inherited a large fortune from a distant relative. It wasn't enough to make him fabulously wealthy, but it was more than enough to live comfortably. Even the pharmacist's license he'd earned by staying up late and going bald in college could be tucked away for good. After struggling to survive for more than a decade, Wei Xi, the self-reliant orphan, could finally live the leisurely, health-conscious life he'd always wanted. Watching the waters flow east in the morning, and the sun set in the west at dusk. Playing chess, savoring tea, keeping out of the world's troubles, and occasionally tending to the strangely mutated flowers and plants. Life was good. Min Zheng, the Alliance's only S-rank Dark Sentinel, had earned countless military honors and possessed extraordinary combat abilities. He had just turned thirty and was already an Alliance general. During a battle, an enemy spy, cornered with no way out, released a new kind of drug smoke in front of Min Zheng. It was designed to trigger a mental breakdown. The spy died on the spot, bleeding from every orifice and foaming at the mouth. Min Zheng managed to hold it back with sheer self-control and mental discipline, but his mental powers still went out of control. When the general was secretly rushed back to a medical facility on the capital planet that night, an inadequate quarantine caused every Sentinel in the capital to lose control for more than ten minutes. Guides, meanwhile, briefly fell unconscious due to mental turbulence. Ordinary citizens suffered all kinds of symptoms: fainting, delirium, violent outbursts... the list went on. The Alliance's top experts and doctors spent the night discussing the case. The drug smoke had a complex composition and couldn't be analyzed in a short time. For now, the only way to ease General Min Zheng's symptoms was to have a Guide provide mental counseling. However, Guides who could calm a Dark Sentinel's mental powers were exceptionally rare, and no Guide had a compatibility rating of over 50 percent with General Min Zheng. Treatment had reached an impasse. Just then, an inspector reported an unusual case to his superiors. An hour earlier, the surveillance system had shown that while everyone else was either going berserk or unconscious, one citizen of the capital was flying an old-fashioned, manually operated agricultural plane to water his garden. The Alliance military abducted him that very night. They were ready to try anything, even if the odds were hopeless. Tests later confirmed that he was a Guide! And his compatibility with General Min Zheng was over 90 percent! The military leaders looked at the still-dazed Wei Xi, tears welling in their eyes. "Mr. Wei Xi, please save the hope of the Alliance!" They sounded so sincere that it was nothing like some kind of prank show. Wei Xi: ??!!! Wei Xi: When did I become a Guide??!!
