The Golden Finger of the Tragic Novel's Heroine

Lu Miao died on her wedding day.

Amid the chorus of congratulations, her soul crossed over to ancient times, becoming a lonely ghost unknown to anyone in the Lin residence.

The mistress of the house, Lin Yin, had married the wrong man. Her worthless husband had married into her family for her fortune. Once he got his hands on it, he showed his true colors, keeping a crowd of women around to torment her. He abused her in body and spirit until she tried to hang herself.

Lu Miao watched it all, unable to bear it, and stepped in to save her.

But the exhausted young woman broke down sobbing. “Are you going to bully me too?”

Lu Miao was shocked. “You can see me?”

Lu Miao had never liked meddling in other people's affairs. Even as a ghost, she kept quiet, because no one could see or hear her.

But now things were different. Lu Miao remembered the incense Lin Yin offered day after day, and the smiles she sometimes turned toward empty space. Her still, lifeless heart seemed to beat again.

She asked Lin Yin, “Do you want revenge? Do you want to take back everything that belongs to you? I'll help you.”

Standing at Lin Yin's side, Lu Miao helped her escape the mire step by step and reclaim what was hers.

Just as the riches and glory were about to disappear, the scoundrel resorted to a despicable trick, hoping to consummate his marriage with Lin Yin. Lin Yin knocked him unconscious with a bottle.

Lu Miao looked at the young woman, her face flushed inside the blue silk bed curtains, and spoke softly. “Lin Yin, I can help you, but I'm not human...”

Lin Yin opened her arms and drew her into the curtains. The rules she had learned as a child had long since been swallowed by her defiance of convention.

“Lu Miao, marry me. In life, we'll depend on each other; in death, we'll stay together.”

(I've scrapped the previous blurb and replaced it with this one.)

Theme: Love can cross the boundary between life and death.
