Just after starting school, Gu Qing found herself with a new boy by her side.

He saved her a seat every day, went to class and ate with her, and knew which candy she liked best.

Everyone worried he would bully her until she was in tears and urged her to stay away from him.

She looked at the person beside her. He was as gentle as a big dog, gazing at her with warm affection.

"No, he’s really good to me."

--

That year, after his family fell on hard times, he hid in a shabby old house and met a little girl.

She was pretty, and her smile was warm. She took a piece of candy from her pocket and gave it to him.

"Mom says if something is making you unhappy, you can eat a piece of candy."
