He apologized profusely, then prepared to move to the right spot and keep crying.

A chill wind blew past. A man who looked just like the one in the tombstone photo appeared beside Cheng Gu. After a few quiet coughs, he said, "You've awakened me."

Cheng Gu pretended to be blind. "No, you've got the wrong person."

The man said, "You have to take responsibility for me. Since you've made a mistake, you might as well see it through and form a yin marriage. I'll protect you from evil spirits, and you can let me stay by your side."

After days of being tormented by ghosts, Cheng Gu was sorely tempted. "What does forming a yin marriage mean?"

A red knot symbolizing two hearts tied together floated before him. The man spoke gently. "Starting today, I'm your husband."

Cheng Gu, who had somehow gained a husband: "Huh?"

This story is entirely made up, and its worldbuilding is my own. Please don't apply it to real life. 60% of the text is locked behind anti-theft measures.

Unable to find a job, Cheng Yu starts doing unusual work on a secondhand marketplace: acting as the evil villain who takes cats to be neutered.

He has to snatch his client's cat and take it to be neutered, then let the owner rescue it and bring it home. That way, the cat will love its owner like crazy.

On his first day, Cheng Yu rings the doorbell with a bright smile.

"Hello, are you the cat-neutering villain you booked?"

The door opens, and Cheng Yu freezes.

His most famous high school classmate doesn't recognize him, and simply steps aside to show him a cat lounging on the floor.

"You won't blow your cover, will you?"

Cheng Yu puts on his mask. "Probably not."

The act begins. Cheng Yu snatches the cat with a menacing look and rushes it to the pet hospital.

The strange thing is, the cat is perfectly well-behaved the whole time, never resists, and even keeps acting cute.

The first job is a success.

A week later, though, his former classmate sends him a video, sounding troubled.

"Hi. Didn't you say the cat would cling to me like crazy after I rescued it?"

"I think my cat hates me now T.T. Could you come over and take a look?"

In the video, the cat angrily swats at his former classmate, leaving vivid red scratches all over his muscular arms.

Cheng Yu hurries over.

The cat, who had been furious with its owner, quiets down when it sees him. It sits obediently and lets out a soft little meow.

His former classmate gives him a complicated look. "...Could I book two months of aftercare, until my cat likes me again?"

Cheng Yu has no idea what went wrong, but awkwardly says that it's the least he can do.

He works tirelessly to mend the relationship between the man and his cat.

By the time the aftercare ends, the cat can't bear to be without Cheng Yu, and neither can its owner.

The man and the cat crouch by the door, staring at Cheng Yu with pitiful eyes.

The cat acts cute and cuddly, while its owner hugs it and joins in. "Could you stay? Meimeng says he wants you to be his dad."

"My partner."

Cheng Yu: "...Huh?"

Cheng Yu: "O-okay, I guess."
