Induced Marking [Sentinel and Guide]

[Important note up front] [The shou is beautiful, powerful, and tragic. He is frail and on the verge of death, yet incredibly strong. He will risk everything to protect the people around him and doesn’t value his own life. He spends the whole story living as if he’s already prepared to die. The gong does everything he can to keep him, but can’t. If this isn’t your thing, please don’t read. ot2] 1. The Federation is in the midst of war. Xie Huai, an S-rank guide, becomes its chief general thanks to his vast mental strength. He leads his troops north, and along the way, he happens upon a young boy. Not long after the boy is taken in, he differentiates into a sentinel. But his mental world is so chaotic that not one of the guides in the army’s current team can provide him with mental guidance. Xie Huai smiles and stubs out his cigarette. “I’ll do it.” 2. The young boy grows attached to Xie Huai. Xie Huai ruffles his hair. “Kid, what kind of guide do you like? Once the war is over, I can introduce you to someone.” The boy looks at him with an almost pleading gaze. “Would you do?” Xie Huai smiles. “I won’t be marked by anyone, including you.” After the war ends, peace returns to the Federation, and its people live in safety. But Xie Huai is stripped of his military authority and rank, and branded an enemy of the Federation. The boy tries to take him away, but Xie Huai catches him by the wrist instead. As the boy stares at him in confusion, Xie Huai gently slips off the bathrobe draped over his shoulders, then wraps his arms around the boy’s neck and smiles sweetly. “Kid, haven’t you always wanted me?” The boy freezes for two seconds, then grips his slender waist with fierce urgency. 3. Xie Huai is executed. Without his guide, the boy’s chaotic mental world spirals out of control. The vast Federation cannot find another person capable of providing him with mental guidance, and an entire city is massacred. “I want everyone who betrayed him to join him in death.” As the backlash from his mental power leaves him in unbearable agony, a familiar tendril of mental energy reaches into his mental domain once more. “Kid, I’m not that easy to kill.” *True age gap: the shou is fourteen years older than the gong.
