A short story I wrote on a whim. It's my first attempt at writing a short story, so the prose is terrible. Please don't flame me if it's not your thing.
The style leans toward a magazine story. I originally wrote it to submit to a magazine, but, well, you know how that goes, haha.
I'm not very good at writing blurbs. It's basically a story about Cinderella, a prince, and a knight. The trope is old-fashioned, but finishing a story is hard.
So, here's the important part: please let me share a passage from the story.
While waiting in line, Ye Xihe noticed something very strange.
Everyone was talking about the same thing, whether they were ahead of her or behind her, or even in the long, oddly arranged lines to either side.
"Hey, hey, there's a new transfer student in the first year of high school. He gave a speech on behalf of the whole first year at this morning's assembly. Did you see him?"
"You'd have to be blind not to. The first-year girls were screaming so loudly they nearly lifted the roof off the auditorium."
"Is he the really tall one? The one who looks like the male lead in a romance novel?"
Ye Xihe was speechless. What kind of comparison was that?
Looks like a romance novel's male lead? What does that even look like? Sweet and swoon-worthy?
Theme:
After reading this story, I have to say that I feel a little emotional. Ye Xihe is a very strong girl. Her parents are divorced and her mother does not love her. She has a half-brother who is not sensible and should be eliminated first. But Ye Xihe does not complain about others. The pressure of life makes her lose the innocence of her peers, but she also cares about the people around her who are kind to her and lets Xu Yingying eat vegetables. Such a strong girl is far more pitiable by men than a weak girl, and deserves pity and love, so she is loved and protected by two good men, Gu Nanfeng and Qi Chao. Xu Yingying is willing to become friends with Ye Xihe, who is isolated by everyone, which proves that she is actually a good girl. However, it is a pity that such a girl gradually belongs to Ye Xihe because of Gu Nanfeng. In the end, she is willing to tell Ye Xihe everything, proving that she is still the good girl at heart. Gu Nanfeng is a good man, and he took his time to wait for Ye Xihe, but my favorite is Qi Chao. He is the one who really spends his time with Ye Xihe, guarding her silently, and letting go of Ye Xihe because of his love, instead of "kidnapping" Ye Xihe with his companionship. His love for her was deep in his bones. Maybe Gu Nanfeng would have made the same choice, but it was Qi Chao who accompanied Ye Xihe, and it was he who moved me. Companionship is the longest confession of love. This confession was delivered to Ye Xihe and she felt it and was moved, but it was not her love.
Sometimes love is only one step away. Perhaps because of his own experiences, Gu Nanfeng's calm character can make Ye Xihe's heart flutter. This momentary heartbeat will last a lifetime.
Qi Chao missed Ye Xihe, but I secretly asked, can I recommend myself? Does Qi Chao still lack a girlfriend?
