Hey! Being a Magical Girl Is a High-Risk Job

[What's it like to be a magical girl?] --Thanks for asking. I'm flying through the sky, and I just saved the world. No health insurance or retirement plan, constant overtime that works me to the bone. From the start, all I have is a magic wand, and I survive fights by playing it safe. Worst of all, before every battle I have to transform in front of everyone, complete with background music and a 360-degree petal effect. The catchphrases are so embarrassing my toes curl... #MagicalGirlsDeserveToLiveToo# Kashima Wakaba, 18, an utterly ordinary high school girl, is tricked into signing a contract one day by a mysterious cat familiar. From then on, she walks the path of a magical girl, where public humiliation goes hand in hand with mortal danger. Her fighting style is especially unusual: Confronted by robbers, she transforms at top speed: "Overflowing with love! Cure Heart! Angel of Love!" (Then she wins.) Facing an esper, she recites a spell: "Precure Love Link! ...L! O! V! E!" (Then she wins.) She can even cosplay as a Sailor Moon-style heroine with a single click, but her transformation gets livestreamed to the whole internet, and the next day she makes the Yokohama headlines... #RuleOneForMagicalGirls: BeforeYouSaveTheWorld,SaveYourSenseOfDignity# Even more absurdly, she keeps running into that bandage-wasting, suicide-loving device named Dazai Osamu in the strangest places. The first time they meet, she has just fished him out of a river when he tenderly takes her hand and says, "Beautiful miss, will you join me in a double suicide?" Kashima Wakaba: "...Isn't being alive nice?" Later, she hides her identity and gets a job at the Armed Detective Agency, only for her secret identity to be blown on her very first day by this guy. Dazai Osamu: "Wakaba-chan, the bow you dropped while transforming hit me on the head, you know~" Kashima Wakaba: "...Is it too late to kill you and cover it up?" [Reader's Guide] 1. A goofy, high-energy story. The heroine's skill is cross-dimensional cosplay, and the more embarrassing the transformation, the stronger she gets. 2. Dazai's antics are reliably unhinged, and everyday life is a chaotic mess of magical girls versus bandage-wrapped weirdos. 3. Yokohama arc begins, featuring a chaotic crossover with the Armed Detective Agency, the Port Mafia, and the Special Division for Unusual Powers. 4. The heroine's ultimate goal: Stay alive long enough to collect her retirement benefits, and absolutely do not let Dazai Osamu drag her into a double-suicide personals ad. "I can maintain love and peace, but could you please turn off the transformation animation?" --A magical girl being publicly executed for her embarrassment cries out. Theme: Pay tribute to the classics and add a little joy to everyone's everyday life.
