Douma was reborn, and he had only one goal: a cozy home with his wife and children.

Even after being reborn, Douma still couldn't figure out what he felt for Kotoha.

Maybe it was just that she was beautiful, or that she had a lovely voice.

Either way, Douma had no plans to let her go just yet.

Kotoha looked at Douma, somewhat incredulous. "My lord, why are you so good to me?"

Douma smiled. "Of course, because you deserve it." Just kidding. Once you aren't pretty anymore, I'll abandon you.

Ten years later, Inosuke, now all grown up, looked at the clothes of the Paradise Faith's leader with distaste and decided to leave the mountain.

As she watched her beloved son leave, Kotoha felt an overwhelming sadness. When she saw Douma, she asked him once again, "My lord, will you always be this good to me?"

"Of course," Douma said, while inwardly scoffing: Once your voice turns hoarse and unpleasant, I'll eat you.

Fifty years later, Kotoha, now with white hair, sat by the window watching the snow. Her voice had grown faint, yet it was still ethereal. "My lord, will you eat me after I die?"

"Of course. I'll eat you up properly," Douma said.

Twenty years later, Douma broke his promise.

But never mind. It wasn't the first time he'd lied.

Reborn on the very day Kotoha caught him eating a person, Douma: ...Thank you, fate.

How can anyone be this unlucky, even when reborn?! Couldn't I have come back a day earlier? Even an hour would do, or at least a minute!

After living a second time, Douma's boundaries kept retreating.

At first, he only wanted to deceive Kotoha for the rest of her life.

Later, he only wanted Kotoha to like him a little.

Then, even that wasn't enough. He wanted Kotoha to belong to him, body and soul.

He took from her inch by inch, yet gave more with every step, until in the end, he became an Upper Rank who didn't eat people.

An Upper Rank who doesn't eat people will only get scolded by the boss. But I can't let Kotoha down.

Sorry, boss. This time, I'm switching sides.

Please note these warnings:

· I've thought countless times about how to give these two a happy ending without making them OOC. The simplest way would be to have him return with his memories to before it all happened, so he could simply avoid eating people from start to finish. But from my perspective, that version of Douma would be a little OOC. So I want to portray a Douma who doesn't understand why Kotoha is precious, yet instinctively feels that she matters.

· Everything he does is driven by love, and every change comes from love, so Douma has to grow. His mindset changes gradually throughout the story. With every change, he gains another weakness and grows closer to being human.

· In the public's eyes, this pairing can easily become a dark and twisted ship, because Douma's eating people is something that can't be erased. Even if he's a flashy Japanophile, he still eats people. I don't want to dodge that fact, so his rebirth from the start is set at the moment when the landmine between them is fully exposed.

· Douma is already somewhat different from the start, after being reborn. A little humanity planted by Kotoha in his previous life has sprouted after his rebirth.
