One Widow and Three Kids

One autumn, a young widow settled in Yiyang Town with three little dumplings.

The young widow made a living selling fried dough sticks in the eastern part of town, raising three hungry little ones. Then her eldest son, Qi Shuwang, passed the palace exam and came home as the third-ranked candidate, becoming the county magistrate. Her second son, Qi Shuwen, inherited the fried dough stick stall and monopolized the town's entire fried dough stick trade. Her third son, Qi Shuwen, was growing up wonderfully, obedient and well-behaved, and never causing trouble.

The young widow was very happy. Just as she was thinking of remarrying and finding a second spring, turmoil broke out in the Qi family.

Her steady eldest son opposed her remarriage no matter what.

Her dutiful second son said whatever his big brother decided was fine by him.

Her well-behaved third son tearfully begged her not to find him a stepfather and disrupt family harmony.

The widow: "I can't live like this anymore. I raised three unfilial sons!"
