After Mistaking Him for My Husband, I Fell for Him

Blurb

Her father and brothers died in battle. Seeing that Pei Wu no longer had anyone to rely on, her stepmother wanted to sell her to an old widower as his second wife.

To escape her cruel fate, Pei Wu pretended to have lost her memory, mistook a fair-faced scholar for her husband, and insisted on going home with him.

The scholar was handsome and well-mannered. Pei Wu was certain he wouldn't lay a finger on her.

But when she threw herself into his arms, he narrowed his eyes and gripped her waist as he asked, "A-Wu, are you sure you want to come with me? You should know that once you do, there's no turning back."

Pei Wu: Is it too late to change my mind?

Pei Wu had assumed the scholar was just a bookworm. After they married, she planned to get a divorce agreement and live freely.

She'd even thought up an excuse for the divorce: she could say she'd remembered that he would take concubines in the future, and that she was too jealous to accept it.

But on their wedding night, when she said she wanted a divorce, he suddenly turned very serious. "Jealousy is one of the Seven Grounds for Divorce. Why don't I write you a letter of repudiation and send you back to your mother's family?"

Pei Wu: No, thank you.

Later, the scholar took her to the capital, where she learned that he was Li Cheng, the regent notorious for his ruthlessness.

Pei Wu packed her bags in the middle of the night and tried to flee, but Li Cheng carried her back to bed and murmured gently, "Why run? Weren't you the one who decided I was your husband? In that case, it's only right that I spoil you for the rest of your life."
