Gu Xuedai has a cousin who became a Buddhist monk: Jiang Que. Jiang Que is breathtakingly handsome, gentle as jade, and widely admired.

But Gu Xuedai dislikes him. She once saw with her own eyes as Jiang Que brutally killed someone, staining his flawless robes with blood.

Jiang Que is a hypocrite, and he frightens Gu Xuedai.

Then one day, she begins dreaming about him again and again.

In her dreams, she isn't afraid of Jiang Que at all. Instead, she sees him lose his composure in every possible way.

Every day, Gu Xuedai meets Jiang Que in her dreams.

Later, he takes her to the imperial palace in one of those dreams, where Jiang Que turns out to be the supreme ruler, obsessively devoted to her.

As her dreams grow more and more outrageous, Gu Xuedai can no longer face her monk cousin. She flees in haste and returns to her family's ancestral home to marry.

But to her surprise, when she enters the main hall, Jiang Que is seated there. Prayer beads in hand, his features are strikingly pure, his expression hidden in shadow.

On the night Gu Xuedai is to be married, her intended groom is replaced.

The monk's hands, stained with warm blood, grip Gu Xuedai's face.

The man's gaze is dark and obsessive. His voice is merciful as he says, "Dai'er, if I had known you would run away, I should have taken you by force, just as I did in your dreams."

Jiang Que has a complicated past. By nature, he is cold and abstinent, and after entering the Buddhist faith, he becomes even more detached from worldly desire.

But an unexpected incident stirs the darkness in his heart.

At a family banquet, forbidden wine drips onto his cousin's collar. When she looks his way, a blush colors her brows, just like the woman in the absurd dreams that have haunted him for days.

Everyone under heaven regards the Buddhist monk Jiang Que as an immortal of pure jade.

"I do this to you every night, and you still haven't noticed." Her stepsister's voice is hoarse. The outline of a man's face appears, while slick jellyfish tentacles climb up and coil around Illyria.

Illyria faints from fright. When she opens her eyes, she finds herself still in her stepsister's arms, and faints again.
