*
Kuzhi was a stone spirit by the sea in Muhai. She was the only one in the area blessed with the talent to become a spirit. But even after becoming one, she was still a stone. She could see, speak, and think while sitting there, but she couldn't move. After the thrill of having a stone talk to her for three days and three nights, only for no one else to pay her any mind, she began to swing back and forth between optimism, withdrawing into herself, telling herself she could still manage, despair, and yearning, until she finally fell into a long slumber.
When she awoke, she had been picked up by Huangtang, right in front of her, by Teng Teng Lu, the rarest creature in the Ball of Light, yet used as a little castle-keeper. Huangtang didn't even seem to dislike her. He merely glanced at her indifferently, wondering whether spending so long in the demon realm had messed up his ability to recognize things. Then he asked the little Teng Teng Lu without a trace of emotion, "When did you go blind?"
Kuzhi left Muhai with Huangtang and came to the Nabo Continent. Even after signing a magical contract, she didn't know that everything Huangtang had said about helping her fulfill her wish, reclaiming his own lost possession, and then sending her back to Muhai was a lie. Not only was he never going to do it, he also planned to use the crushed fragments of her stone body as fertilizer for the castle's roses.

Huangtang was an evil demon who had a heart, yet was heartless. On the day he finally washed the demonic taint from his heart as he'd wished, he met a stone spirit by the sea in Muhai. The annoying stone spirit had followed him back to his castle without permission. Only then did he realize that his heart was not only still there, but even seemed to be beating with excitement. It beat so hard that even with one hand around her, he couldn't bring himself to snap her neck.
Fortunately, the stone spirit was easy to fool. Huangtang indulged her, but before the day came when he could truly crush her, he discovered that even without a heart, he could still feel pain. For the stone spirit he had come to care about, he changed.

Little extra scene
After holding his temper in for a long time, the evil demon lord made the delicate little stone spirit cry. Seeing her small body curled up made his heart ache, but the evil demon lord knew he couldn't spoil the stone spirit. He thought that surely he could comfort a stone spirit he'd made cry himself.
But... when the evil demon lord took the stone spirit out of the castle to buy the peaches she wanted, she couldn't carry the ten-jin bag of peaches after holding it for a while. She tugged at his trouser cuff and said, "Um, these peaches are so heavy. Could you carry them for me for a little while? Just a little while. I can't lift them anymore."
The evil demon lord said that everyone should carry their own things, but picked up the bag of peaches from the ground anyway. "Let go already," he said, then walked on.
Reader's guide:
1. This is a sweet bedtime story about an evil demon lord who keeps wanting to kill a stone spirit he despises, only to keep getting proven wrong. Truly sweet, not bittersweet, and definitely not angst!
2. The evil demon lord has no feelings, except for one little stone spirit!
3. The stone spirit has "died" before, but the evil demon lord didn't do it!
4. It will definitely have a happy ending.
Theme: I like you not because I submit, but because I submit willingly.
