An Ordinary Day Working at the White Tower

Updates tonight at nine She lives in a world of Sentinels and Guides, but isn’t either one. Yuan Yi is clearly not the protagonist of this world. She works at the White Tower alongside the main characters, and spends her days worrying about much more tedious, detailed matters. A little pile of pebbles keeps appearing by the door, and if she isn’t careful, she’ll step on them and fall. Her boss has a dazzling disco ball for a head. It’s so bright she can’t look him in the eye while he talks, but he gets upset if she looks at the floor instead. She wants scallion tofu, but they’re sold out of tofu, so she can only buy a substitute. Before she can eat it, she has to wrestle with it first. Other than that, her life keeps going, boring and uneventful. But lately, she has a few more things to worry about. Yuan Yi: Is it just me, or have the White Tower staff’s spirit forms been acting a little unstable lately? Maybe it’s because of contamination. They’ve gotten kind of clingy. Good Friend A: No way! What kind of contamination could be that serious? Good Friend B: This sounds serious. We’d better report it! Yuan Yi: Good idea. I’ll report it right away! · Ordinary people have ordinary worries, and protagonists have protagonist worries. As the main characters of this world, the Sentinels and Guides have been feeling rather troubled lately, too. The person they’re interested in is unmoved by their advances. What’s more, she promptly reported the widespread abnormal behavior she’d noticed in their spirit forms. Thanks to her, the White Tower began strictly monitoring contamination levels among Sentinels and Guides, and ordered them to avoid contact with ordinary staff for an extended period, in case the contamination spread. What contamination? There’s no contamination at all! I hate you, you block of wood! Starting today, you can sit at the same table as people who ask things like, “Why does the cat make a noise when it gets home?” and “Why does the dog poke me with its snout?” Here we go, friends! Another nonhuman character! This is a Sentinel-and-Guide world, but it’s very much my own take, with lots of original details. And since the boss has a disco ball for a head, you can tell there’ll be some characters with nonhuman heads. Their heads will always be nonhuman. They won’t turn into human heads. Rather than write a story about straightforward nonhumans, I want to try something new, exploring abstract ideas like “almost human, but not quite” or “the boundary between humans and nonhumans.” Theme: Keep your hope alive and press forward bravely
