Zhuo Yan always thought he was destined to spend his life worrying himself sick: about his junior fellow disciples, his master, his sect, and especially his grandmaster, who had been asleep for a thousand years.

Cultivators love deeply so they won't have regrets. But Zhuo Yan never imagined that after looking after certain people for a while, he would find himself unable to look away or let go.

After waking from a thousand years of slumber, Lu Wu thought all his old friends would be gone, leaving him with nothing to live for. He, too, never expected someone to cling to him with all their might, refusing to let him walk alone, even if it meant searching heaven and earth or being torn to pieces.

Of the fifty paths of the Great Dao, Heaven derives forty-nine, leaving one to escape.

Since that's the case, why not weather the storm together, walk side by side, and seize that one chance at life?

The novel uses the pantheon of Investiture of the Gods as its backdrop, with the rest set in an imaginary Eastern Han dynasty.

The title comes from the song "How High Is the Sky," a track from the soundtrack of Beyond the Heavens, composed by Mark Chan.
