The Southern Song had fallen.
Those four short words stabbed into Song Zilan's heart like a blade. The traditional scholar's character was taken to the extreme in him. Carrying a heart full of national hatred and personal vengeance, he buried himself alive in darkness, hating everything about the Mongol Yuan.
Meng Zhengnan, meanwhile, was an arrogant, brutish Mongol who looked down on all the so-called scholars of the Southern Song, Song Zilan included.
In this senseless love affair, they were left battered and bruised by their utterly opposed classes and beliefs.
As The Peony Pavilion says: “Love knows not whence it comes, yet it grows ever deeper. The living may die for it, and the dead may return to life.” Perhaps that says it all.
This is a melodramatic, heart-wrenching tale of a general and a scholar, a nobleman of the reigning dynasty and a remnant of the former one.
Daily updates. Bad ending. Enter with care if you can't handle heartbreak.
The setting draws on the two or three decades from the end of the Southern Song to the beginning of the Yuan. The author isn't a historian. The main sources are History of Yuan and New History of Yuan, with some changes. Don't bother quizzing me on historical details, I won't listen.

It was so cruel. I couldn't hold back from crying during the previous parting and reuniting. I clicked on the ending with the last hope. When I saw Lan dying alone in the cold night, tears came out all of a sudden. It was the first time I cried while reading a sad story.
I cried to death after reading it. I was very moved. Cheers to the author! The author has worked hard to update the article, so here's a refresher!
Hey, happy new year!!!
I jumped to watch it, and at the end, Zhengnan said, I'm here, why didn't you wait for me, ah, it's really sad, I don't know how to describe it, just burst into tears, losing the person you love, especially when you obviously can, but you miss him, that kind of feeling is really touching! Give me a call!
Why did Lian Shen frame Meng Heng? Brothers of 20 years, I stabbed each other with a knife. I have a knot in my heart. Could the author please explain it? (??)?
If you don't make a sound, that's all. If you make a blockbuster, that's my deep love for you.
I particularly like the non-emotional scenes written by the author. I feel uncomfortable when it comes to emotional scenes. Finally finished reading.
I remember that my brother's Ake died.
There is a bug here. Song Zhi has taken a knife and killed people.
Lan Lan is a typical southern scholar. She knows that dynasties are changing and cannot refuse. After all, it is difficult to reconcile her feelings, the hatred of the country and the family, and the dilemma of love and hate. I couldn't help but love, and I couldn't let go. I was driving myself crazy little by little, and it felt like Lan Lan actually had a mental breakdown in the end. Meng Heng is a noble of the new dynasty, the proud son of heaven. He will catch him when he likes her. He thinks that if he treats Lan Lan well, the two of them will get along well, but he never understands Lan Lan's thoughts. Maybe he wants to understand, but he can't. Identity, situation, and personality finally failed to make the two people achieve their wishes. This kind of story of clearly loving each other but not being able to be together in the end is really annoying to me! Cry. JPG! %>_<%The story of reincarnation also gave them the opportunity to fulfill their wish. Very well written!
