The Butterfly Boy

R's first face-to-face conversation with "Butterfly" was charged with hostility.

Only after taking the file and looking through it did he learn the boy's real name.

"Ying Lian." The man enunciated slowly, without even raising his head. "Why not call yourself Ying Zheng?"

"I don't believe one of the Eight Ancient Surnames needs the character Zheng added to it to sound truly imposing."

The reply was just as hostile, and the man couldn't help looking up.

The boy rested both elbows on the dining table, fingers interlaced beneath his chin. His eyes curved into a smile, his pupils vast as the sea, yet there was no trace of hostility in them.

"Why kill people?" R stared into his eyes.

The boy's lips curled in a mocking smile as he spoke slowly. His voice was clear, resonant, and powerful, like a speech delivered to thousands.

"Corruption and filth, filthy worms, blindly following the crowd, arrogant ignorance, hypocrisy and vileness, desolation and ruin: what purpose do these things serve?"

"And you? Why do you exist?" The man arched a brow, genuinely curious to hear his answer.

"To purge."

"So this is Butterfly?"

"Butterfly?" Ying Lian chuckled. His clear, lovely voice carried an air of disdainful authority. "It's Samael."
