Don't Call Me Director, Call Me Baby

Three years after graduating, Cheng Yanyun was still getting bit parts on film sets.

She carried luggage, hauled equipment, and worked on wires. While others complained and grumbled, she never uttered a word of complaint.

Cheng Yanyun was a talented actress, beautiful and gentle. More than once, influential figures had discreetly offered her a way in.

But Cheng Yanyun turned them all down. Acting is the career I love. I want to make it on my own.

Then the renowned director Shang He'en chose her from tens of thousands of audition videos and cast her as the lead.

With one knowing how to direct and the other how to act, their film won the Gold Award, and Cheng Yanyun took home the Best Actress award in one fell swoop.

Standing onstage, radiant, Cheng Yanyun smiled at the director below.

The renowned director Shang He'en had made a name for herself both through her outstanding work and her personal charisma.

She never stuck to convention. Cool and proud, she had never bowed her head to anyone. She had no interest in women, as if she were born immune to romance.

Until one day, she saw Cheng Yanyun burn a layer of skin off her wrist while carrying equipment without making a sound, and her heart ached.

As they interacted during filming, Shang He'en was uncharacteristically mischievous. Want this? Then ask me for it.

Cheng Yanyun played along. Please, please?

When the television series won an award, Shang He'en went onstage to accept Best Director under the gaze of the Best Actress.

In full view of everyone, she announced their relationship to the Best Actress: How about calling me baby?
