He's Doctor Mori, Not Veterinarian Mori!

I'm Doctor Mori, not a veterinarian!

A look at Doctor Mori, who got sidetracked into treating animals and nearly changed careers to become a vet.

He's a first-rate animal doctor. Pet owners are thrilled, and he earns more treating animals than people. At first, he only treated animals as a favor because of Alice or Mr. Fukuzawa. Then, somehow, he gained a reputation for being able to treat any animal, and a crowd of pet owners started showing up (?).

Mori: I'm a doctor who specializes in treating people, not a vet.

Pet owner: Is this enough money? I can pay more if it isn't.

Mori: ...Understood. I'll treat them. Animals and people are equally deserving of care!

Everyday life from then on:

The patients who come to the clinic watch as Mr. Mori sets them down, then goes to fetch bandages for the cats and dogs that are better than the ones he uses on them.

Patient: Why do those cats and dogs get better bandages and medicine than people? They're only animals... This isn't fair!

Mori: It is fair. Animals and people are equal. Besides... can you afford what their owners pay? It's more than ten times what you do.

Patient: … (Falls silent, not saying a word.)

Patient: Woof!

Mori: (Looks at them as if they're an idiot.)

Patient: Can't you treat us all equally, like livestock?

Veterinary medicine pays really well. When it comes to money, dignity can take a back seat. What's dignity worth without money?

Mori: From today on, veterinary medicine is my side profession.

With so many cats and dogs around, some of them climb onto the bed.

Dazai Osamu: Get them out of here! Aaah, stop stealing my bandages! I hate dogs, and now I hate cats too!

With so many fluffy things in the clinic, we can get up close and cuddle them!

Mr. Fukuzawa visibly brightens.

The cats and dogs visibly grow unhappy.

A certain doctor is unexpectedly popular with cats and dogs. Sometimes, they even seem to absorb him: when he sleeps, he's covered in fluff, with animals curled up on his legs or head.

[An idea for a possible twist bonus chapter:

In a parallel world, Mori is a real veterinarian.

Then he's forced to treat people, and it turns out he's pretty good at it.

Patient: Sir, you're an excellent doctor.

Veterinarian Mori: No, I'm just a veterinarian.

Patient: ? You don't have to be so modest. There aren't many doctors as excellent as you.

Veterinarian Mori: No, no, I'm really just a vet forced into treating people. I treated them like cats and dogs, and only changed the medicines I needed.

The patient is left with a head full of question marks.
