The Former Executive's Kill Order May Be Late, But It Will Never Be Absent

The Mafia boss takes you on a first-hand tour of the happy life that comes with amnesia.

One less cat means 100% less hassle. Why not give it a try?

"You'll still be my cat when you come back," Mr. Mori said, then walked away without looking back.

The former executive stormed off, and with the boss's help, successfully adjusted to a life on the run, constantly being hunted.

Dazai: What do I do if the boss doesn't want me anymore?

Mori: No idea. I'm happy, anyway.

What if you were a heartless bastard by the book?

When a cat scratches at the door, grab it by the scruff and throw it out.

When a cat wanders in front of you, close your eyes and walk right past.

But how can you blame me for losing my memory?!

"About how Mr. Mori could have gotten my attention directly, but chose to pretend he had amnesia instead."

"Not at all."

The escaped former executive has me a little intrigued. What's this? A cat on the run. Let's try to lure it in! But it's so hard to catch. Never mind, go on, then. Dazai: slowly types a question mark.

Did you steal my memories? Spit them out right now!

Memory thief: I can't spit them out.

Memory thief: Thanks for asking. I love them and don't plan to give them back.

Memory thief: These memories taste great. Burp.

Four years later: A meeting to discuss working together against the Guild.

Dazai Osamu had played out countless times in his mind what he should say when he met that person, and how he should guide his thoughts to convince him to form an alliance with the Detective Agency.

But Dazai never expected the meeting to go so differently. The other person didn't act at all as he'd imagined. He even greeted Dazai, then ignored him completely, as if... as if Dazai didn't exist.

Mori Ougai's diary:

xxxx.xx.xx

There's a cat that keeps circling around me today. Who is it? I've never seen it before.

xxxx.xx.xx

I ignored it yesterday, but it showed up again today. It acts like we've known each other for ages and keeps rubbing against my trouser leg. What a nuisance. I threw it out.

xxxx.xx.xx

Today it actually made its way into my office. I don't know how it snuck in. It strutted around, meowing, then left on its own. How strange. I don't even know it.
